Some tips before you go

Askersund

From the harbour in Askersund, there are good paddling routes for both beginners and more experienced paddlers. The areas close to the harbour and shore are calmer and suitable for shorter, safer trips. In calm weather, more experienced paddlers can follow routes out to islands and more open parts of northern Lake Vättern, where the nature is more dramatic but also more exposed to the weather.

Karlskoga

Möckeln is a large and varied lake with open water, calm bays and scenic shores. Around Karlskoga, there are many places where you can easily get in and out of the water. The lake offers both wide views and sheltered areas for calm paddling.

For beginners, it is best to paddle close to the shore and in sheltered bays. It is safest to go out when the wind is light. Möckeln can quickly become difficult to paddle on when it is windy, with waves on open water. In strong winds, you should avoid going out. More experienced paddlers can, in good weather conditions, take longer trips and explore more of the lake.

Möckeln is best suited for planned day trips, where you adapt your route and level of difficulty to the weather and your own experience.

Lindesberg

Lindesjön offers varied paddling, with both more open water and more sheltered areas close to the shore. The lake is centrally located in Lindesberg and combines easy access with a natural setting, making it popular for everyday outings and calm day trips.

Norasjön offers beautiful Bergslagen scenery, with forest-lined shores and several calm bays that are well suited for paddling. Its location close to Nora makes the lake easy to access and popular for shorter trips and quiet nature experiences.

For beginners, it is best to paddle close to the shore and in sheltered parts of the lake, where it is easy to take breaks and feel safe. More experienced paddlers can, in calm weather conditions, take longer trips and also paddle out to Alntorps island. This requires good judgement of weather and wind, as it involves paddling across more open water.
