Your färdtjänst permit decides what applies to you. However, there are some rules and routines that apply to everyone who uses färdtjänst
-
Time interval for the journey
You can travel at the same times as scheduled public transport, such as buses and trains. You can travel between 05.30 AM and 12.00 PM, Sunday to Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can travel between 05.30 AM and 02.00 AM.
-
Pick up and drop off
When you are picked up, the driver will help you with any mobility aids and luggage. The driver will assist you from the outer gate to the vehicle. At the end of the journey, the driver helps you out of the vehicle and to the outer gate of the destination.
If the driver judges that it is not possible to drive all the way to the outer gate, the driver will follow you there both when picking up and dropping off.
-
Companion and fellow traveller
If you need more assistance during the journey than the driver is expected to provide, you can apply to bring a companion free of charge. Once you have submitted an application, we will assess your needs.
If you do not require assistance during the journey but would like to bring someone along, you may bring a fellow traveller. The fellow traveller pays the same fee as you and boards and alights at the same addresses as you.
Who needs to apply?
- Adults and children aged 12 and over who require assistance during the journey must apply for a companion.
- Children under the age of 12 may bring a companion without applying.
- Children under the age of 7 must always have a companion when travelling with färdtjänst. Children under 7 do not need to apply for a companion.
You can apply digitally at 1177.se or by completing a form and sending it by post.
Apply at 1177.se (Available in Swedish only)
Who is granted a companion?
To be granted a free companion, you must require more assistance during the journey than the driver is expected to provide.
The driver assists you with:
- Walking between the door and the vehicle.
- Getting in and out of the vehicle.
- Handling luggage and mobility aids.
- Fastening your seatbelt if you need help.
Rules for companions
- The companion on and off at the same addresses as you.
- You cannot get a companion for help at the destination, only for help during the journey.
- You cannot get a companion for assistance that the driver provides.
- The companion must be at least 18 years old.
- You arrange your own companion, for example a relative, as before. The färdtjänst unit does not assist in finding a companion.
Cancelling a fellow traveller
If you have booked a journey with a fellow traveller but plan to travel without them, you must cancel the fellow traveller booking at least 60 minutes before the journey. If you do not cancel, you will have to pay for what was booked, because the invoice is based on the booking. We invoice according to the booking, not according to how the journey is carried out.
-
Children with färdtjänst
Children with a färdtjänst permit pay half the personal fee until the date they turn 20. You can find the prices on our website.
Companions for children with färdtjänst
Children under the age of 7 who have been granted färdtjänst must be accompanied by a companion during the journey. They do not need to apply for a companion. The child may travel alone if the journey is between home, school and after-school care.
Children aged 7 to 12 may bring a companion without applying.
Children over the age of 12 who need assistance during the journey must apply for a companion.
Bringing children on the journey
If you are an adult with a färdtjänst permit, you may bring your own children at no extra cost until the child turns 7. You may not bring more children than can safely fit in the vehicle together with you, any companion and any fellow traveller.
If you are an adult and have a färdtjänst permit, you may bring your own children, including children aged 7–19. They must pay half of the adult fee until the day they turn 20.
If you are not the child’s legal guardian, you and the child must be registered at the same address. The child must get on and off at the same addresses as you.
Cancelling a child’s booking
If you have booked a journey with a child but will be travelling without the child, you must cancel the child’s booking. If you do not, you will be charged for what has been booked, as the invoice is based on the booking. We do not invoice based on how the journey is carried out.
-
Aids and luggage
You may bring two mobility aids and a limited amount of luggage on your journey.
Rules for mobility aids
If you have a färdtjänst permit, you are responsible for ensuring that your mobility aid is intact and functioning.
When moving to/from and in/out of the vehicle, you can receive help from one driver only, not multiple drivers. If a single driver cannot manage to assist you to/from and in/out of the vehicle, it is your responsibility to adapt your mobility aid. For example, a manual wheelchair may need to be fitted with a motor or additional brakes. Your journey may be refused if a single driver cannot assist you to/from and in/out of the vehicle.
Rules for luggage
You may bring a maximum of two bags or items per passenger. The maximum dimensions are 80 × 50 × 35 cm and the maximum weight is 15 kg per item. You may also bring one small piece of hand luggage, such as a handbag, small backpack or similar.
Hand luggage must not cause inconvenience to other passengers on a shared journey. The driver has the right to refuse the journey if the passenger brings too much luggage.
You may bring a pushchair and an electric scooter/foldable bicycle as luggage. An electric scooter or foldable bicycle must not exceed 120 cm when folded.
These rules also apply to companions and fellow travellers. We adapt the size of the vehicle to your needs, not to those of your companion or fellow traveller.
-
Guide dog and pet
You may bring guide dogs, other service and assistance dogs, or pets on your färdtjänst journey. For pets, you pay the same personal fee as for the färdtjänst passenger. Assistance and service dogs travel free of charge.
The driver will not help you handle your animal. If you cannot place the animal in the vehicle yourself, you must bring a fellow traveller who can assist you. Companions are not granted for handling animals.
Transport cage or safety harness
You must bring your own transport cage or safety harness and a blanket for the animal. If you have a small animal, it must always travel in a cage. The cage should then be placed in the luggage compartment of a car or on the floor in a special vehicle. A basket is not approved as a cage.
Larger dogs travel in the luggage compartment of cars. If you travel in a special vehicle and have a medium-sized or large dog, it is important that you bring a blanket and a harness for the dog.
You are responsible for ensuring that the animal is secured in the cage or that the dog is wearing an approved seatbelt harness, and for placing it correctly in the vehicle. The driver is responsible for securing the load.
Cancelling your animal booking
If you have booked a journey with a anminal but plan to travel without the animal, you must cancel the animal booking at least 60 minutes before the trip. If you do not cancel, you will have to pay for what was booked, because the invoice is based on the booking. We invoice according to the booking, not according to how the journey is carried out.
-
Special service
If you are unable to complete your färdtjänst journey without a special service, you can apply for it. This may include front seat placement or a direct journey. To apply for a special service, go to 1177 to submit a digital application or print out a form.
Carry assistance
If you need carrying assistance or a stair climbing device because you cannot use stairs, contact Serviceresor and we will help you.
Contact information to Serviceresor
You may make up to 8 single journeys per month with carrying assistance at visit addresses. This limitation does not apply to your home address. You pay SEK 55 per occasion for the carrying assistance, in addition to the personal fee for the journey.
-
When traveling with a wheelchair
If you travel seated in a wheelchair, you should mark the points on the wheelchair where the straps must be attached. This helps the driver fasten the wheelchair correctly. Make sure that your wheelchair is approved for transport.
If you are traveling with an electric moped, you must move to a seat in the vehicle.
We will help you with your mobility aids and your luggage into the vehicle when we pick you up. We also help you out of the vehicle at the end of the journey, to the outer gate or similar.
-
Ride‑sharing and pick-up time
We plan all our Transport services with ride-sharing to allow as many people as possible to travel together. This means that your departure time may vary, and you might need to travel earlier or later than desired.
When you book your journey, you will receive a scheduled pickup time. However, depending on traffic conditions and vehicle availability, the vehicle may arrive up to 10 minutes later in urban areas and up to 15 minutes later outside urban areas.
Because journeys are coordinated, travel time may be longer than a direct journey and can take up to twice as long. We aim to keep travel times as short as possible.
If you must arrive at a specific time, please tell us when you book your journey so we can make sure you arrive on time.
