From 1 February 2026, we will update the regulations for färdtjänst in Örebro län. The new rules have been decided by Regionfullmäktige.
-
Companion (Ledsagare)
As of 1 February 2026, you must apply to bring a companion when travelling with färdtjänst. Previously, everyone could bring a companion without applying. In future, the need for a companion will be assessed.
If you do not need help during the journey but want company, you can bring a fellow traveller (medresenär). The fellow traveller pays the same fare as you.
Information about fellow travellers
Who needs to apply?
- Adults and children aged 12 and over who need help during the journey must apply for a companion.
- Children under the age of 12 can bring a companion without applying.
- Children under the age of 7 must always have a companion with them on journeys with färdtjänst, unless the journey is between home and school or after-school care. Children under the age of 7 do not need to apply for a companion.
To be granted a free companion, you must need more help during the journey than what the driver is supposed to assist with. The driver helps you walk between the door and the car, get in and out of the car, handle luggage and aids, and fasten your seatbelt if you need help.
Rules for companions
- You cannot get a companion for help at the destination, only for help during the journey.
- You cannot get a companion for help that the driver provides.
- The companion must be at least 18 years old.
- You must arrange your own companion, for example a relative, just as before. Färdtjänstenheten does not assist in finding a companion.
Apply for a companion
You can apply digitally at 1177.se. You can also print out a form and send it by post. Only individuals aged 12 and over who require assistance during the journey must apply for a companion. The application opens in mid-December 2025.

Children under the age of 7 who have been granted färdtjänst must be accompanied by a companion during the journey. They do not need to apply for a companion. The child may travel alone if the journey is between home, school and after-school care.
Children aged 7 to 12 may bring a companion without applying.
Children over the age of 12 who need assistance during the journey must apply for a companion.
Bringing children on the journey

If you are an adult and have a färdtjänst permit, you may bring your own children, including children aged 7–19. They may travel at half the fee until the date they turn 20.
Cancelling a child’s booking
If you have booked a journey with a child but will be travelling without the child, you must cancel the child’s booking. If you do not, you will be charged for what has been booked, as the invoice is based on the booking. We do not invoice based on how the journey is carried out.

Pets and animals when using färdtjänst
As of 1 February 2026, you will need to pay a personal fee for pets travelling with you. You pay the same fee for the pet as for the färdtjänst passenger. Assistance and service dogs may travel free of charge.

Aids during the journey
The regulations regarding assistive devices have been updated and clarified, as certain areas previously lacked rules:
- If you have a färdtjänst permit, you are responsible for ensuring that your assistive device is intact and functioning.
- When moving to/from and in/out of the vehicle, you can receive help from one driver, not multiple drivers.
- If a single driver cannot manage to assist you to/from and in/out of the vehicle, it is your responsibility to adapt your assistive device. For example, a manual wheelchair may need to be fitted with a motor or additional brakes.
- Your journey may be refused if a single driver cannot assist you to/from and in/out of the vehicle.
-
Luggage during the journey
You may bring a maximum of two bags or items per passenger. The maximum dimensions are 80 × 50 × 35 cm and the maximum weight is 15 kg per item. You may also bring one small piece of hand luggage, such as a handbag, small backpack or similar.
Hand luggage must not cause inconvenience to other passengers on a shared journey. The driver has the right to refuse the journey if the passenger brings too much luggage.
You may bring a pushchair and an electric scooter/foldable bicycle as luggage. An electric scooter or foldable bicycle must not exceed 120 cm when folded.
These rules also apply to companions and fellow travellers. We adapt the size of the vehicle to your needs, not to those of your companion or fellow traveller.
-
Fee for carrying assistance
On 1 February, a new fee for carrying assistance will be introduced at visit addresses. You may travel on 8 single journeys per month with carrying assistance at visit addresses. The limitation in the number of journeys does not apply at your home address.
You pay SEK 55 per occasion for the carrying assistance, in addition to the personal fee for the journey.
If you have a special transport permit and need carrying assistance, you can contact Serviceresor for more information.
